ST. LOUIS | Nearly 23,000 homes and businesses in southern Missouri still are without power.
The number includes 700 customers of AmerenUE, 16,000 who belong to rural cooperatives, and 6,200 served by municipal utilities.
The Association of Missouri Electric Cooperatives says it's hopeful that some transmission lines could go up Wednesday.
The Missouri Public Utilities Alliance has said it could take 45 days to have its crumpled transmission lines rebuilt.
Ameren says most of its customers in the affected region will have power restored by the end of Wednesday.
