COLUMBIA | Missouri this afternoon will announce a contract extension, and a healthy bump in compensation, for football coach Gary Pinkel.
“I’ve got all the bases touched,” MU athletic director Mike Alden said. “We’re going to announce a contract extension for Coach Pinkel today about 4:45 or 5 o’clock.”
Alden did not provide specifics of the extension, but said he would at the announcement at Mizzou Arena.
Pinkel’s existing contract runs through Dec. 31, 2011. It has a base salary of $255,000 a season but other guaranteed compensation boosts that to $1.3 million.
In his seventh season at Missouri, the Tigers finished the regular season at 11-2 and were for a week ranked No. 1 in the nation. Mizzou plays Arkansas on Jan. 1 in the Cotton Bowl, MU’s first major bowl game since the 1970 Orange Bowl.
If Missouri wins the Cotton Bowl, it would be the first 12-victory season in MU history.
