Here’s some advice for the motoring public this weekend.
Stay off the interstate – or at least avoid some construction hot spots that will only leave you ticked off.
There will be a number of lane closures that could lead to extensive delays. Here’s what to look for on both sides of the state line this weekend – assuming the weather cooperates. Some or all of it could be postponed because of rainy weather.
Westbound Interstate 70 at the Manchester Trafficway will close from 7 tonight until 5 a.m. Monday. Also closing will be the northbound and southbound ramps from Interstate 435 to westbound I-70. The ramps, however, will remain closed until Oct. 6. Weekend traffic will be detoured around the closure to westbound U.S. 40, then to the ramp back to westbound I-70. Barriers and message boards will help direct traffic
Eastbound I-70 will be down to one lane at Manchester starting at 8 tonight until 10 a.m. Saturday and again from 7 a.m. to noon Sunday.
Westbound I-435 at U.S. 69 in Overland Park will be closed overnight Friday and Saturday. The highway will close at 9:30 each night and reopen by 8 a.m. Saturday and by 10 p.m. on Sunday. Also planned to close are the ramps from northbound U.S. 69 to westbound I-435 and from westbound I-435 to soutbound U.S. 69.
Northbound I-35 near the Olathe-Lenexa border at I-435 will be down to one lane between 119th Street and Pflumm Road for repaving. Farther north, you can expect I-35 to be down to one lane from Antioch Road to Southwest Boulevard. The work starts after the evening rush hour and ends by Monday morning.
