Mexico’s Mazatlan is getting its mojo back

MAZATLAN, Mexico — The atmosphere in the Plaza de Toros, hot in the afternoon sun, crackled like popcorn, leaving visitors wondering just how long the crowd, growing larger by the minute, would sit patiently and wait. But as late arrivals searched for the last free seats, their concerns melted away.

Bangkok edges London as most popular city

Here’s an assertion that will cause most observers (including myself) to rub their eyes in wonder. According to the Global Insights Index, Thailand’s Bangkok now receives more yearly visitors and more airline passenger arrivals than London, thus enjoying the title of “world’s most popular city.”

I had an aneurism, but British Airways is keeping my money

Q: I was recently diagnosed with an abdominal aortic aneurysm and my surgeon told me I wasn’t fit to travel. I had a ticket on British Airways to attend my daughter’s wedding. Because of this life-threatening condition, I couldn’t use my tickets.

International communication goes beyond words

The language barrier used to be a big problem for American travelers. I remember leading tour groups through France, and was constantly impressed at how Americans expected the French to speak English. People would go to the post office in some little town and be frustrated because there was no help in English and the people weren’t friendly. I had to explain to them that small-town French postal clerks are every bit as speedy, cheery and multilingual as they are here in the United States.
