Fr. Stanley Rother was officially recognized as a martyr in 2016 and will be beatified this September in Oklahoma City. He is the first American-born martyr and the first U.S. priest to be beatified. He is expected to eventually be declared a saint.
Ten seminarians were ordained as priests during a ceremony at the Church of the Magdalen on Saturday. Ten is an unusually high number and helps the Catholic Diocese of Wichita, which before Saturday had 96 priests for 114,000 parishioners.

Gracia and Martin Burnham were missionaries in the Philippines when they were taken hostage by a Muslim extremist group. After a year of being held captive, Martin was killed and Gracia was wounded during a rescue attempt. In the 15 years since, Gracia has traveled the world speaking about her ordeal. (May 21, 2016)
