The Heartland Middle East Culture and Dance Association is sponsoring a benefit for Pets in Crisis at 6 p.m. today.
"Dancing for the Dogs," at First Salem United Church of Christ, 952 S. Hillside, will feature a potluck dinner, silent auction and dancing -- belly dancing, gypsy, tribal/fusion and more.
Tickets, available at the door, are $5, $3 for MECDA members. Bring a potluck dish to share.
Proceeds will go to Pets in Crisis, an animal safe-house fostering program in cooperation with the YWCA.

Miniature horses on display at Coliseum
Miniature horses from across the Midwest will be on display from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. today and Sunday at the Heartland Classic Miniature Horse Show at the Kansas Coliseum, 85th Street North off I-135.
The horses will take part in activities such as jumping, driving and navigating obstacles. Horses and equine equipment will be for sale.

Horses for adoption in Hutchinson
The U.S. Bureau of Land Management, along with the Hutchinson Correctional Facility in Hutchinson, will host a Wild Horse Adoption and Open House Friday and May 10.
About 20 horses that have been saddle- or halter-trained by inmates will be available for adoption.
The horses can be previewed from 10:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Friday, and inmates will conduct training demos all day. Doors open again at 8 a.m. May 10, with a competitive bid adoption beginning at 11. Adoptions continue until 3 p.m.
