Fundraising dog wash Saturdays in Bel Aire
Could your dog use a bath? Take your pet to the RETAIN summer dog wash, where volunteers will do the dirty work and your donation will go to a worthy cause.
From 1 to 4 p.m. every Saturday through Sept. 7, weather permitting, volunteers will wash dogs for $5 outside Heartland Animal Hospital, 4100 N. Woodlawn in Bel Aire.
Proceeds go to Responsible and Ethical Treatment of Animals in Neighborhoods, a local group that helps pay for spay and neuter surgeries for pets whose owners can’t afford them.

Program to discuss animal issues in Kansas
Friends of Felines KS, a local group that advocates for cats, will host a free presentation July 18 to discuss animal issues and help people learn what they can do for animals in Kansas.
Midge Grinstead, Kansas state director for the Humane Society of the United States, will cover what is needed to be an effective advocate for animals. Discussion will include the roles of residents in changing animal welfare laws in the state, how a bill becomes a law, what influences a legislator, what animal-related bills and issues are being considered by the Kansas Legislature, and what you can do to get them passed.
The event is 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the Kansas Humane Society 3313 N. Hillside. Registration is not required.
