Kennel club presents search and rescue group with AKC grant

The Wichita Kennel Club recently presented K-9 Search and Rescue of Kansas with a grant in the amount of $1,860. The money, which came from the American Kennel Club’s Companion Animal Recovery Canine Support and Relief Fund, will be used to fund K-9 SAR’s mobile command section of its trailer and for other needed items to help with rescue efforts.

K-9 Search and Rescue of Kansas was formed in 2005 as an all-volunteer group of people dedicated to training themselves and their dogs to National Association for Search and Rescue standards.

Summer dog wash each Saturday in Bel Aire

Does your dog need a bath? Leave the dirty work to volunteers and help a good cause by taking your dog to the Retain summer dog wash.

Every Saturday between 1 and 4 p.m. through Sept. 7, weather permitting, volunteers will shampoo, rinse and towel off dogs for a requested donation of $4 for a small or medium-size dog and $5 for a large dog.

Proceeds from the dog wash, held outside Heartland Animal Hospital, 4100 N. Woodlawn in Bel Aire, go to Responsible and Ethical Treatment of Animals in Neighborhoods, a local group that helps pay for spay and neuter surgeries for pets whose owners can't afford them.
