Family Dog offers classes on canine intelligence, leash work

Family Dog Training and Behavioral Center, 69th Street North at Hoover Road, is offering special classes and workshops the week of April 22.

• How Smart Is Your Dog? – April 22 and 24

This two-evening workshop will cover the difference between trainability and intelligence, problem-solving skills vs. obedience skills. Owners will learn how to teach them quickly and how to get their dogs to retain the lesson, while finding ways to harness the high-energy level of their pups. Class time is 6 p.m., and the cost is $40 for the two-day session.

• Leash Work Revisited – April 23 and 25

Walking nicely on a loose leash is easier said than done and one of the hardest skills humans have to work on with their canine companions. This two-day intensive course is designed to break down leash work, teach it step by step and help make you and Fido feel more comfortable and confident while out on a walk. Class time is 6 p.m.; cost is $40 for the two-day session.
