Animal response team to hold conference

The Kansas State Animal Response Team, created five years ago as a result of the Greensburg tornado, will hold its fifth annual conference on Nov. 2 and 3.

The pre-conference, on Nov. 2, and conference, on Nov. 3, will be held at the KU Medical Center, 1010 N. Kansas in Wichita.

The conference is an opportunity for people to learn more about volunteering for an animal response team, receive training and participate in a practice exercise to get a glimpse of what transpires when setting up and running a temporary shelter for displaced pets as a result of a disaster.

The pre-conference includes an afternoon tabletop exercise, “Disaster Path,” which offers a glimpse into disaster response. The conference itself will offer sessions on topics ranging from pet first aid, grief awareness and compassion fatigue, to volunteer and donations management.

The conference fee is $35, or $50 for out-of-state attendees. The pre-conference tabletop exercise is $10.

Preregistration and prepayment are required by Oct. 29. For more information, go to www.kssart.org/team_resources/fall_2012_conference/ .
