KHS Adopt-a-Thon continues today
The Kansas Humane Society's 2010 Adopt-a-Thon, part of the ASPCA's $100K Adoption Challenge, continues today at the shelter, 3313 N. Hillside. The goal is to find new homes for 200 pets.
All dog, cat, puppy and kitten adoptions will be 50 percent off, and every person who adopts an animal is automatically entered to win an iPad courtesy of ITKansas.
Today's family-friendly events include a pancake and sausage breakfast with Chris Cakes for $5 a person from 8 to 10 a.m.; and an ice cream social with Freddy's Frozen Custard, $3 a person, from 4 to 6 p.m.

Holiday manners classes for dogs
Sit Stay Dog Training at All Paws Pet Center, 1444 N. Maize Road, is offering classes in holiday manners for dogs.
The classes, which will meet once a week for three weeks, start Oct. 30. They are designed to help owners get dogs under control in time for the holiday season.

Red Cross to teach first aid for dogs
The American Red Cross will present a seminar on first aid for dogs Nov. 6 at All Paws Pet Center.
The seminar is from 1 to 3:30 p.m. at 1444 N. Maize Road.
The cost is $25 per person or $35 for a couple and includes a first aid book and DVD.
