Pine tip moth – While there are few Scotch pines and a declining number of mugo pines in the area because of pine wilt, treating those remaining pines for pine tip moth will help them, extension agent Bob Neier says. The window for spraying to prevent tip moth damage from the first generation is between Sunday and May 2, with a product containing lambda-cyhalothrin, acephate or spinosad, Neier says.
Native plant sale – The FloraKansas native plant sale continues this weekend at Dyck Arboretum of the Plains in Hesston. Hours are 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, noon to 4 p.m. Sunday, and 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday. Admission is free.
Also on Saturday, there will be a Prairiestock music festival at the arboretum, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Food will be for sale. Admission to the music festival will be a $5 wrist band for adults. Children ages 16 and under will be admitted free.

Bartlett Arboretum concert – Spring blooms including tulips continue to pop at Bartlett Arboretum in Belle Plaine, where Austin troubadour Jimmy LaFave will be in concert at 4 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are $10 at the gate, which opens at 3 p.m. Picnics are welcome, and Luciano’s Italian cuisine and Lyon’s Den barbecue will be for sale.
Program on taking flower photos – Barney Tull will give tips on taking great flower photos during a meeting of the Prairie Winds Daylily Society at 7 p.m. Monday at Botanica. The meeting is free and open to the public. The club will also have a booth in the Downing Children’s Garden at Botanica from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, April 26. Kids will be able to color daylily pictures and be entered in a drawing for a daylily. It’s included in Botanica admission.
Tarragon talk – Kay Neff of Neff Family Farms will be at Botanica on Wednesday to talk about growing and using tarragon in cuisine; she’ll provide samples and recipes. Her lunchtime lecture will be at 12:15 and is included in Botanica admission.
