Garden railway tour today
The Wichita Area Garden Railway Tour runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. today. The free tour stops at Botanica, at several gardens in Wichita, and one in Newton. You must have a free tour map for admission to Botanica (the map covers you and your immediate family). Tour maps are available at garden centers and hobby shops.
Other stops on the tour: 1425 N. Broadway, 6356 N. Seneca, 2434 N. Amidon, 217 N. Joann, 844 N. Westlink and 2015 E. Blake in Wichita, and 200 SW 2nd St. in Newton.
The tour is sponsored by the Wichita Area Garden Railroad Society. Donation jars will be available to help the club’s participation in community displays.
Historic Newton home tour next weekend
Four historic houses will be open for tours from 1 to 5 p.m. Sept. 23 in the McKinley Residential Historic District Neighborhood in Newton. This will be the second year for the tour, which will also include refreshments, displays of vintage automobiles, a raffle of antique collectibles and an architectural-detail scavenger hunt with door prizes. Tickets cost $10 and will be available only during the tour, at the McKinley Administration Center, 308 E. First St. Proceeds will benefit the district’s neighborhood association.
