Tasks: Pulling the cucumber out of the Asian garden; planting carrots, three types of Daikon radishes and beets for the fall; harvesting Chinese long beans, tomatoes, cucumbers, gold zucchini, our first acorn squash of the season and our sole Sugar Baby Bush watermelon. The watermelon was a great treat on a hot morning.
Observations: The Sugar Baby Bush watermelon was selected because it has very small vines (3 1/2 feet). The vine only had one melon, but it would be a fun project if you don't have much space and want to try a growing a watermelon with children.
Challenges: The continuing heat. We've added to our challenge this week by planting seeds that will need to be kept moist throughout the germination period.
Anticipated next week: Planting (and possibly re-planting) more fall vegetables, harvesting and the regular weeding and dead-heading.
