Tasks: Harvesting lettuce, spinach, radishes, mustard greens, watercress, mizuna and golden pak choi along with the first Hon Tsai Tai (broccoli raab). Replaced the only casualty of the rough weather: a tomato plant that snapped off near the soil.
Observations: The currants are beginning to ripen, and the grapes are starting to flower.
Challenges: Many peppers are beginning to bud and flower too early. We forced ourselves to pick most of the buds and flowers off so the plants can get well established in the garden before beginning to produce. We are seeing lots of tiny grasshoppers eating here and there. We also observed a white imported cabbageworm moth around the Chinese cabbage. If it laid eggs, we'll have caterpillars on the cabbage in a couple of weeks.
Anticipated next week: Lettuce and spinach harvesting and weeding.
