Lindsay Winn, 32, was looking forward to having lunch with her mom, Lynda Manning, at the Seventh Annual Sisterhood of the Divine Makeover Luncheon on June 25.
The highlight of the benefit for Dress for Success is the unveiling of the winners of the Wichita Eagle Makeover Contest. "Before" photos are shown, and the makeover subject walks out looking very different.
But as Lindsay was starting to eat her chicken salad, I called her name as the winner of the Instant Makeover.
That meant she was swept away, her "before" photo was taken and her own makeover began.
"I didn't even know I was entered," she said. "My mom entered me. I'm so glad she did. I was very surprised and very happy. I'm a stay-at-home mom with my two kids, so usually their needs and my husband's needs are before mine."
She had been wanting something different.
"This was just awesome," she said.
Her mom volunteered to help set up the luncheon and brought her daughter "for a nice lunch out."
She made a donation of $20 to Dress for Success, which meant she had five opportunities to win the instant makeover.
"I wanted her to win and she did," Lynda said.
By the time lunch was over and the three women and one couple had been presented, Lindsay also had a new look thanks to the quick work of Trish Dool and Holly Lenox of Eric Fisher Salon and Beth George of Foggy Bottom.
Her new look got a big round of applause from the audience.
Trish said she chose to cut Lindsay's hair so it would be easy for the busy mom and be a style that worked with the natural texture of her hair.
"I wanted to perfectly frame her face," she said.
Holly went with light, natural makeup.
"She doesn't usually wear a lot of makeup, and I wanted to keep it simple," she said. "She has great skin and beautiful eyes to play up with her makeup."
Lindsay was more than pleased not only with her new hair and makeup but with the outfit from Foggy Bottom.
Top to toe: A mid-length maxi of bright colors, $55; crochet cover-up, $55; necklace and earrings, $20; cream and bronze sandals, $38; and beige handbag, $42. A Golden Classic Jelly watch was an added surprise, $24.
"My hair feels and looks so much healthier. I love it, and the outfit is fabulous," Lindsay said as she had her "after" photo taken. "It was so amazing and fun!"
Way to go, Mom! Lindsay, you owe your mom lunch.
