Rubber-stamp more of moms' sayings

River City Rubber Works "surveyed everybody we know," says a co-owner.

A story in Tuesday's WichiTalk featured more than a dozen "momisms" that readers' mothers always used to say.

Fans of mommy maxims might want to check out the "Mom Sayings" wood-mounted rubber stamp, a best-seller at River City Rubber Works.

Co-owner Dana DeCicco designed the stamp, which features many momisms, including "Money doesn't grow on trees, you know" and "This is going to hurt me more than it's going to hurt you."

"We surveyed everybody we know," DeCicco said of the research that went into the stamp. "We had ideas coming from everywhere. It was fun."

DeCicco, one of five siblings (her sister LeAnne Hubbard is another co-owner), said the stamp holds a special meaning to her now.

It includes sayings from her mother, Wichitan Pauline Hubbard, who died in December.

Among them: "Close the door... were you born in a barn?"

That momism has a double meaning, DeCicco said, because her business is located in a barn.

River City Rubber Works closed its retail store March 1, but the "Mom Sayings" stamp -- it's 4-by-5-inches and costs $13 -- and other products are for sale online at www.rivercityrubberworks.com.

Local residents can order items online and pick them up at the business, 5555 S. Meridian, between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. Tuesdays through Fridays.

When ordering online, indicate in the "comments" section of your order that you'd like to pick up your purchase rather than have it mailed to you. The business will waive your shipping cost.

River City Rubber Works also sells a "Mad Mom" stamp that pictures a woman with her hands on her hips, and others that feature dad sayings ("I would've let you, but your mother said no") and kid phrases ("You're not the boss of me").
