General FAQ

A. An Eagle+ subscription provides immediate and unlimited access to all content on our newspaper’s website (www.kansas.com), our mobile site (m.kansas.com), our iPhone and Android smartphone apps and our electronic replica edition (e-Eagle), in addition to your printed newspaper subscription. Eagle+ bundles all the ways you can read The Wichita Eagle’s content into one price.

A. With a digital subscription, you will have unlimited access to digital content on our website, mobile site, iPhone and Android smartphone apps and e-Eagle.

Some portions of Kansas.com will remain free; access to other portions will be limited without a digital subscription. Each time your computer or smartphone visits our site, your use of the site’s pages are counted. Some portions of our site, such as our home page, section fronts (like Local News, Sports, Go! and Business Today sections of the website, for example), obituaries, Dealsaver, Cars.com and real estate listings will remain fully accessible, which means you’ll continue to have unlimited access to those pages. But story-level pages, photo and video galleries, commenting, breaking news, blogs and other content will have access limited to six pages every 30 days. Once you reach the six-page limit, you’ll need to subscribe or wait 30 days to view additional content. On our mobile site, m.kansas.com, the limit will be 18 free pages; on smartphone apps, there are 58 free pages.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A. There are several. Wichita Eagle newspaper subscribers can add the digital bundle to their newspaper subscription for an additional $0.64 plus tax per week (or $33.28 plus tax per year for those who pay their subscription annually). This is the best deal, and it’s available whether you subscribe seven days a week or less.

Without a digital subscription, you will have unlimited access to some portions of our site, including the home page, section fronts (like Local News, Sports, Go! and Business Today), Dealsaver, Cars.com, real estate listings and other advertising areas. Access to some other content will be limited to six pages every 30 days. Once you reach the six-page limit, you’ll need to subscribe or wait 30 days to view additional content.

For readers who do not have a Wichita Eagle newspaper subscription and want only digital access, they can purchase the digital bundle alone for $9.95 per month (or $99.95 per year if paid annually).

A. The digital bundle charges will begin with your next renewal. If you’ve already renewed your Wichita Eagle newspaper subscription for 13, 26 or 52 weeks, you’ll have access to the digital package without charge until your current subscription is due for renewal.

Or, when you’ve viewed your six free pages, a pop-up online order form will appear and invite you to subscribe.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A. Once you purchase your digital subscription, you will be logged in to your account from the device you used to purchase the subscription. You don’t have to do anything else to access the content on the website. However, if you switch to another device or clear your saved login data, you may see the message asking you to subscribe. If that happens, simply click the “Sign In” button on the top left corner of that screen and enter your email address and the password you selected.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A. You will need a digital subscription to comment or read comments after your six free page views are used each 30-day period.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A. Yes, but you will need a digital subscription to read stories once your 58 free pages are used each 30-day period. Without the digital subscription, your smartphone app will be limited to the unlimited access pages (home page, section fronts, Dealsaver, etc.) and 58 free pages each month. A digital subscription will give you unlimited access to Wichita Eagle content through your mobile app and to the e-Eagle, our digital replica of the print edition.

A. Most of our readers have access to the Internet and use our website or mobile applications, so bundling them together makes sense. But if you never use the website and don’t have a smartphone or tablet, you can opt out of the digital portion and pay $0.64 less per week plus tax (or $33.28 per year plus tax if you pay annually) by calling us at 1-800-200-8906.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A. Readers the world over will continue to have unlimited access to some portions of our website, including the homepage, section fronts, Dealsaver and other advertising. But for story content, breaking news, photo galleries, video, commenting, opinions and the rest of the site, readers can access six free pages in a 30-day period. After that, access will be limited only to those who have a digital subscription. Casual readers get six pages for free every 30 days; more avid online readers are asked to pay a modest fee to continue reading, and print subscribers, who are some of our most loyal customers, are entitled to discounted access to a digital subscription.

The world of news and information keeps changing, and the newspaper industry continues to be at the forefront of that change. For 140 years, The Eagle has provided our community with local and world news in printed format that was delivered to homes once every day. Technological advances have provided us with the convenience of mobile phones, tablets and an array of social media channels, and our readers want that same instant access to their newspaper. So we have transformed our business, restructured and retrained our staffs, developed new skill sets to deliver breaking news on multiple platforms and become 24/7 information specialists.

The changes also require a change in our business model. We can no longer expect advertising alone to support all these platforms and options. But the Eagle+ option allows readers unlimited access to all our platforms at a minimal cost.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A. Our system works on a 30-day basis, not on a monthly calendar. So if your first free pages were in the middle of the month, your page allotment starts running again the middle of the following month.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A. Eagle+ account grants paid subscribers access to our digital products.

Your Kansas.com account is still useful for managing your newsletter subscriptions, commenting, adding events and uploading photographs.

A Disqus account allows you to comment on stories on Kansas.com and other sites on the Internet that use Disqus. You do not need a Disqus account to comment on Kansas.com. You can create a Kansas.com account if you prefer.
