LOOKING FOR VOLUNTEERS

The United Way of the Plains Volunteer Center has the following opportunities. Call 316-267-0202.

• Befriend a child who has a parent in prison, through the Mental Health Association of South Central Kansas Compeer program. Provide friendship and socialization to the child by doing fun activities in the community together. Minimum age is 18.

• Interpret Spanish to English and English to Spanish at Guadalupe Clinic. Minimum age is 18.

• Deliver blood to Wichita hospitals for the American Red Cross. Day, evening and weekend schedules available. Must be 21 or older, have a current Kansas driver's license and good driving record. Vehicle provided.

• Work the desk at the Wichita Public Library's Used Book Store. Count money, make change and assist the public. Shifts are 3 ½ hours. Minimum age is 18.

• Apply for the Points of Light Youth Leadership Institute sponsored by United Way June 2 to 6. The institute provides encouragement, peer networks and leadership skills for youth to make meaningful contributions to their communities and begin a life of leadership and service. Must be 14 or older and a high school student in fall 2008.
