The Wichita Board of Education has honored the following students in its third-quarter 99% Awards, which recognize students who have good school performance but are not receiving other recognition for their efforts.
High schools -- Alicia Fullilove, Northwest; Cayli Phillips, Metro-Midtown; Eric Talley, South; Sara Uselton, East; Jermaine Tomlinson, Metro-Boulevard; Kaitlin Lawless, Southeast; Kayla Coleman, Heights; Kendra Bohannon, Metro-Meridian; Melissa Buchana, West; Nathan Thammavongsa, Northeast Magnet; and Stephanie Bullard, North.

Students advance to state history contest
History students from four area schools qualified for National History Day competition during the state history contest April 26 in Topeka.
Two of the schools, Northeast Magnet and Wilbur, won cash awards to help pay for their trip to the national competition June 15-19 at the University of Maryland near Washington, D.C.
Area students who qualified:
Bishop Carroll -- Christine Barragree and Kayla Clasen for their Web site, "Victim or Rebel: The Cherokee Tribe During the Civil War." Teacher is Janet Berry.
Northfield School of Liberal Arts -- Vanessa Zimmerman, Ezra Petersen and Jill Snyder for their performance, "Mama's Lily." Teacher is Ken Spurgeon.
Northeast Magnet -- Michael Rodgers and Sarah Wolf for their documentary, "Stalingrad: Stalemate on the Eastern Front." Teacher is Albert Conard. They were awarded $400 from the Kansas Council for the Social Studies.
Wilbur Middle School -- Morganne Wiltse, Emily Risley and Kelci Glover for their exhibit, "Elizabeth Cady Stanton." Teacher is Barbara Brotton. They received $200 from Fort Larned Old Guard.
Andover chess player wins national contest
Conrad Holt, a freshman at Andover High School, won first place in the K-12 Blitz Tournament April 17 at the 2008 United States Chess Federation National High School Championship April 17-20 Atlanta, Ga.
Holt and Satoru Kishi, a freshman at the Independent School finished in a 17-way tie for sixth place in the championship division of the main tournament.
Derby artists place in league competition
Derby High School students won ribbons at the Ark Valley Chisholm Trail League art competition April 12 in Winfield:
Victoria Beasley, first in watercolor, second in mixed media; Natalie Wells, second in watercolor; Zach Kearns, third in watercolor; Elaine Kelzenberg, Student Choice Award in acrylic painting; Rebeca Ibarra, third in acrylic painting; Talieh Bishop, third in ceramics; Savannah McHenry, first in pen and ink; Lea Hartley, first in analog photography; Mike Burr, first in digital photography; John Brousard, second in digital photography; Stephanie Brown, first in airbrush; and Brendan Van Winkle, third in airbrush.
Cargill announces scholarship winners
Cargill has awarded $3,000 college scholarships to three Wichita-area high school students whose parents are Cargill employees: Abby Fisher, Trinity Academy; Derek Hoetmer, Valley Center High School; and Drew Maley, Bishop Carroll Catholic High School.
The recipients are among 40 winners from a pool of more than 250 applicants.
The National Merit Scholarship Corp. has awarded a Cargill Special Scholarship to Jessica Davis, a 2008 graduate of Northwest High School.
