A Wichita woman will be featured Monday on a new Kansas-produced TV show, competing against her sister-in-law in a race to aerate and seed a lawn.
Andrea Johnsen will be seen on “Tough Grit,” a rural-life TV show produced by Grit magazine of Topeka and Tractor Supply Co., on RFD-TV (cable channel 214). The show’s premiere will air at 6 p.m. on Monday. It can also be seen on the show’s website, ToughGrit.com, after it’s aired.
Johnsen got involved because her brother is a good friend of a Grit writer, she said. Her brother’s wife is her competition in the show, which was filmed on a farm outside Topeka. Johnsen said she’d put in a lawn before – “I knew a little bit of what I was doing” – but she picked up some techniques on the show.
“It was a blast,” she said.
Never miss a local story.
And how is her lawn in east Wichita faring after another brutal summer?
“Ours isn’t too bad because we redid it and put it in Bermuda a couple of years ago. It deals with the heat a lot better.”
RFD-TV is also on DirecTV channel 345 and Dish Network channel 231. The website www.rfdtv.com for other listings.
