Snow boots didn’t get much of a workout this winter, but it’s time to clean them up and put them away. That, of course, could mean that it will snow in early spring. Regardless, you’ve got to make room in your closet for the colorful, sexy, fun and, yes, even comfortable shoes arriving in stores.
This year’s crop of spring shoes is anything but bashful, and you’re going to have a fine time deciding which ones to take home with you.
What are you going to find in store?
“First, the bright colors. This is not a neutral season,” says Richard Cupertino, a sales associate in the shoe department at Dillard’s in Towne East Square. “And look at the combinations of colors. There is a lot of color blocking in spring shoes.”
Never miss a local story.
Cupertino says the wedge heel is proving to be a big hit, and fortunately there is a variety of heel heights in the wedge styles. The heels are made of everything from cork to wood to Lucite. Many are covered in leather, thin rope or twine.
“Toms is doing a wedge,” said Brooke Hebert at The Pink Saloon, Oliver and Douglas. “And the ballet flats by Toms are really selling well.”
The flats are available in bright colors, in prints and in two-tone styles. “And it’s neat because, for every pair sold, Toms gives a pair of shoes to a needy child,” Hebert said.
At Aspen Boutique, Oliver and Douglas, Lisa Marvin says she’s expecting a lot of attention on the many styles of espadrilles showing up. And even though colors are plentiful, Marvin says, “The neutral colors of natural materials make your legs look longer.”
Prints, whether floral, graphic or folkloric, are not only popular in ready-to-wear, but also in shoes. Every style you can think of, from ballet flats to high stilettos, will be available in some type of print.
“Sperry even added prints,” Cupertino said. “But the bright colors with sequins are really popular.” For those looking for a casual, trendy shoe, Sperry, a loafer that started out as a boat shoe, is now available in a myriad of colors and styles.
Ballet flats are adorned with buttons, bows and seashells and are available in citrus brights and fun prints.
This season, it’s not just the flirty dresses and shorts that will be turning heads. Shoes are going to be getting a lot of attention.
“And there’s something for everyone,” Cupertino said. “Even the styles of comfort shoes are updated. This spring is a good season for shoes.”
