Red is festive color for all

Red. It’s the color that some people don’t wear except during the holidays. If you’re among them, now is the time!

Red. It’s the color that some people don’t wear except during the holidays. If you’re among them, now is the time!

In a sea of black dresses, red is festive. Wearing red says it’s time to celebrate and lets everyone know you’re in the spirit of the season. Colors come and go but red, in shades of cranberry to holly berry, never fails to be part of holiday wardrobes.

For those who say, “I don’t look good in red,” think again. Color experts say everyone can wear every color, you just have to find the right shade.

And for those who say, “I’m just not a red person,” think again. According to color expert Leatrice Eiseman, red can speed up the pulse, increase the respiration rate and even raise blood pressure. She says key words associated with red are winner, achiever, intense, impulsive, active, competitive, daring and aggressive.

Still not a “red person?” Remember that you don’t have to wear red head-to-toe. Opt for red for one piece of your outfit or add a jolt of red with accessories. Red shoes, a red evening bag, red sparkling jewelry or a shimmering red scarf will make an impact.

Eiseman would probably say Santa and Mrs. Claus have it right.

“Think about the frequency of red in nature and how it has been used as a signal color in natural settings. True red is the most versatile of reds; it gives life to both warm and cool colors,” she wrote in her book, “More Alive With Color.”

It’s difficult to ignore red. So don’t be ignored during this festive time of year. Wear red, the most festive color of all.
