Embellishments, especially flowers, liven up even the most basic style of pump, flat or sandal.
Gladiator-inspired styles are still around and the "caged" sandal is one of the hottest looks of the season.
"Bright colors and the prints are selling so fast we can't keep them in," Valerie Reimers said of the shoe stock at Lucinda's, 301 N. Mead.
Brenda Thomas, of Nouveau in Bradley Fair shopping center at 21st Street and Rock Road, has been in the shoe business for 24 years.
"I've never seen so much variety in styles, but more than that, I've not seen such acceptance as there is now for the variety of style and how they're worn," she said.
"The style is wide open. It's the individual's choice. Remember when we first saw high heels with jeans years ago and said, 'I'll never wear that?' Now, you see high heels with everything," Thomas said, also recalling a time when we never wore metallic shoes except after five.
"Now you take all the wonderful designs and coloration and develop your style," she said.
The variety adds up to an exciting season to shop for shoes. And it helps that the prices have as big a span as the styles.
