"I saw a lot more people going to prison that had drug and alcohol problems and addiction issues that ended up coming out in a lot worse shape than when they went in," says Ninemire, who, after serving 10 years, now owns a business and counsels other former prisoners.

The Regional Forensic Science Center is a combination of a medical examiner's office and a crime laboratory. The center helps solve crimes not only in Sedgwick County but other Kansas communities. Here's a behind-the-scenes look at what the center can do.
They were on their way to lunch and saw a traffic accident on McLean Boulevard near Pawnee. Wichita Public Works & Utilities employees Miguel Rivas Sanchez and Christopher Stafford stopped and directed traffic so emergency workers could help those involved in the accident. "It meant a lot that they were there, to help control the scene," said Capt. Matt Manning of Sedgwick County EMS. "We were really grateful for their help."
Julian Randle, 11, fulfilled a dream when he signed his letter of intent to join the Newman Jets during a news conference Thursday at Newman University. Julian, who has a rare auto-immune disease, juvenile dermatomyositis, joined the Jets in front of his family and the entire Newman Jets basketball team. "He is a perfect fit for Newman University, " said Newman head coach R.J. Allen, adding, "We knew instantly that this young man was exactly who we want to represent our program." Julian joined the Jets through the efforts of Team Impact, which matches children with life-threatening or chronic illnesses with collegiate sports teams. World War II pilot Robert Capen got behind the controls of a 1942 Boeing Stearman PT-17 during a flight by Darryl Fisher's Ageless Aviation Dreams Foundation. The flight was out of KCAC Aviation at the Johnson County Executive Airport.
