Hunter Dozier grand slam lifts Wilmington

Hunter Dozier’s grand slam in the ninth inning rallied Class A-Advanced Wilmington past Salem 6-3 on Tuesday.

Daniel Rockett and Raul Mondesi opened the ninth with consecutive singles and Bubba Starling walked to load the bases. Dozier, the Royals’ first-round pick in last year’s draft, then homered to left field turning a 3-2 deficit into a 6-3 advantage.

Dozier is hitting .375/.524/.563 over his last 10 games with two home runs, 10 walks and eight RBIs.

Starter Miguel Almonte allowed three runs on five hits over six innings. He struck out five and walked two. Kyle Bartsch, who struck out three in 1 1/3 innings, got the victory.

OTHER GAMES

**P.J. Walters allowed six runs in the first inning at Round Rock and Class AAA Omaha scored just one run in six innings against Blue Springs native Nick Tepesch in a 7-4 loss. Walters, 0-3, allowed all seven runs in five innings. Shortstop Pedro Ciriaco had three hits, while right fielder Paulo Orlando and second baseman Johnny Giavotella each had two. Giavotella raised his average to .372.

**Matthew Murray allowed a two-out walk-off homer at Arkansas, completing a rough night for Class AA Northwest Arkansas’ bullpen in a 5-4 loss. Jason Adam allowed two runs on seven hits over six innings and left with a 4-2 lead. But Scott Alexander, Wilking Rodriguez and Murray each allowed a run in their inning of work, although Murray never got the third out. Center fielder Lane Adams had two doubles, walked twice and scored a pair of runs. Designated hitter Jorge Bonifacio had a double and scored twice.
