Death toll from Joplin tornado reaches at least 116

The tornado tore a six-mile-long path from one-half to three-quarters of a mile wide through the middle of Joplin. Much of the city's south side was leveled, with churches, schools, businesses and homes reduced to ruins by winds estimated as high as 190 to 198 mph. Officials have estimated 2,000 buildings were damaged.
