"Great Expectations"

He's a starving artist trying to make it big to impress his wealthy childhood sweetheart. She's a haughty heartbreaker who studied with an expert: an unstable aunt who was jilted at the altar decades earlier and is out for revenge against men. Ethan Hawke, Gwyneth Paltrow, Anne Bancroft and Robert De Niro star in this 1998 adaptation of Charles Dickens' novel. 7 p.m., MNT and KMTW, Channel 6/36.

"Notorious"

As well-known as he is for having provided classic shocks on the screen, Alfred Hitchcock also was a master at spinning espionage tales. A prime example is this gripping 1946 thriller, casting Cary Grant as a government agent who enlists the daughter (Ingrid Bergman) of a German spy to gather evidence against her late father's Nazi-connected friends. 7 p.m., TCM, Channel 65.
