The signs are up and the Facebook page and website are active for Hot Diggity Dog Gourmet Hot Dogs & Old Fashioned Ice Cream, which is in the same strip center near Central and Tyler that has Verita Coffee Bar and Magic Wok. The restaurant’s address is 9428 W. Central.
I haven’t been able to get the owners to return calls, but the Facebook page said the restaurant was originally scheduled to open on Saturday. It didn’t, and now owners are aiming for this Saturday, May 21.
The page said that the restaurant was a collaboration of family members who “wanted a revival of the soda counter diner culture that centers around families.” It will serve gourmet hot dogs and sausages with toppings and will also have a fresh fruit and salad bar.
The menu lists items like a Chicago dog, bratwurst, vegan dogs, plain Oscar Mayer hot dogs, and a grilled mac-and-cheese sandwich on sourdough. It also lists shakes, floats, banana splits, sundaes and ice cream fruit bowls.
The restaurant is in the space formerly occupied by Rebekah’s Treasures, a clothing shop that opened last fall. It has moved to 9420 W. Central, a spot in the same strip center just a few doors down. The phone number listed on the restaurant’s Facebook page rings to Rebekah’s Treasures.
I’ll let you know if I hear any more.
