Krispy’s Fried Chicken & Seafood is expanding into Derby.
The popular fried chicken restaurant, which opened at 3009 S. Hillside in Wichita in August 2014, should open a Derby location by November, said Alex Nguyen, a spokesperson for owner John Nguyen. It’ll be in the old Sonic/Sock Hop Drive-In building at 123 S. Baltimore, right across the street from Pizza John’s.
John Nguyen bought the Derby building when he was planning to open the first Krispy’s and thought about putting it there. But he changed his mind and opened the Wichita restaurant instead. He’s had the Derby building ever since, Alex Nguyen said.
The new Krispy’s wll have indoor seating and will have the same menu offered at the Wichita store, where favorites include fried chicken in all forms (pieces, strips, wings, nuggets, gizzards) plus fried shrimp, fried catfish, chicken fried steak, fried pork chops, fried okra, fried corn nuggets, fried mac and cheese, fried jalapeno poppers, fried ice cream, fried brownie bits and more. It also includes chicken and waffles, a hard-to-find Soul-food delicacy that combines a a lunch and a breakfast favorite.
Here’s my review of the original Krispy’s, which was published early this year.
