After six years in business, Wichita Pizza Company at 1520 S. Webb Road has closed.
The restaurant, which got new owners a year ago, closed down suddenly about a month ago, said an employee at a neighboring business. The owners left a sign on the door saying they were closing because of a family emergency, but now the Facebook page has been deleted and the phone is disconnected.
I left a message for the new owners but haven’t heard back.
Jeff and Lisa Hutton first opened the the restaurant in October 2010, specializing in thin-crust pizzas. They sold it to Michael Sbragia, a Chicago transplant, last October.
Wichita Pizza Co. was known for its crust and had interesting pies in the menu. In 2011, its taco pizza was featured in an issue of Food Network Magazine that listed one great pizza from each of the 50 states.
