Kamerion Wimbley Football star Kamerion Wimbley — a Wichita native and a defensive end for the Tennessee Titans — is opening a wings restaurant in Wichita this weekend.
Wimbley, a graduate of Northwest High, is the owner of Wings & Things at 2800 E. Central. He’s teaming with his aunt, Valerie Mitchell, to open the restaurant, which will serve wings, fish sandwiches and more.
The grand opening is from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday, and Wimbley will be there, talking with the media and community members, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Wimbley also owns the Twice As Nice barbershop at 2804 E. Central.
Mitchell has operated several other restaurants called Wings & Things in Wichita over the years. Her last incarnation was open six or seven years ago, a manager said.
The restaurant will be open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Mondays through Thursday, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sundays.
Wimbley was a quarterback, punter and linebacker at Northwest High. He went on to play as a defensive end at Florida State and was a first-round pick in the 2006 NFL Draft. He played four seasons for the Cleveland Browns, then spent two seasons in Oakland before playing for Tennessee.
