Three restaurant updates
Just opened – Firehouse Subs, 8007 E. Kellogg: Wichita’s first Firehouse Subs opened last week in Eastgate Plaza. The restaurant chain, based in Florida and founded by two firefighter brothers, has more than 700 restaurants across the country. Hours are 10:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sundays through Thursdays and 10:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays. The restaurant serves hot and cold subs plus salads. For more information, call 316-440-2950.
Now open – Kobe Steak House of Japan, 8760 W. 21st St.: The space formerly occupied by Playa Azul – and a long, long list of restaurants before that – now is filled by Kobe Steak House of Japan. Kobe owners Jim Hamlin and Jim West opened the business on Dec. 11, specializing in the hibachi-style meals where the chefs perform as they cook the food in front of diners. Hours are 5:30 to 9 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays; 5 to 10 p.m. Fridays; 4:30 to 10 p.m. Saturdays and 4:30 to 8 p.m. Sundays. For more information or to make a reservation, call 316-558-3331.
Opening next month – Paradise Donuts, 10607 W. Maple: They meant to open in the fall. But things got busy. Then the holidays arrived, and things got really, really busy. Now, Marilyn and Hervey Wright III say they’ll open their second location of Paradise Donuts, near Maple and Maize, just after the first of the year. They’re hoping for early January, Marilyn said. The couple took over Wichita’s first Paradise Donuts at 3107 W. Central in August. The second store will be in 3,000 square feet.
Reader recommendation: Pasta Piazza
A note posted on the Dining with Denise Facebook page by reader Connie Leonard-Volkman:
“Last night we ate at Pasta Piazza Italian Restaurant (217 E. Douglas.) We are very picky eaters but everything was perfect. Perfect service, crisp salad and a nice tart tomato dressing, an angel hair pasta that wasn't too chewy with a great pepper cheese sauce. Why is this place hidden from the public? The stuffed mushrooms will make me come back all by themselves. Very nice intimate place in the evening, so we will be back for our anniversary or before.”
