Before July, happy hour wasn’t a very happy time in Kansas.
While after-work crowds in other states were enjoying discounted food and drink specials, Kansas bars and restaurants were bound by a 25-year-old law that allowed them to reduce prices only if they did so for the entire day.
But state legislators voted to loosen state liquor laws, and on July 1, happy hour came to Kansas – sort of. Although they were allowed to offer specials during specific hours, it took bars and restaurants a while to decide what types of specials would be most beneficial.
Five months later, happy hour is getting happier all the time. A long list of bars and restaurants now offer food and drink specials during the late afternoon and late evening hours, and managers say the specials are popular with customers.
Here is a list of some of the happy hour specials being offered by several of Wichita’s noted bars and restaurants.
