Kababs is a brand-new Indian/Pakistani restaurant that opened a few weeks ago at 756 N. Tyler (316-351-7777) in the former Red Mesa Grill space. A little info:
1. Lunch buffet: Kababs' daily lunch buffet includes rotating offerings of some of its signature dishes, from chicken curry to tandoori chicken. And the Kababs servers are very generous with the fresh naan, which comes out piping hot from the tandoori oven.
2. Dinner menu: In the evenings, diners can order from the menu, which includes classic Indian dishes such as saag paneer, curry shrimp, fish masala, korma beef and a long list of kababs.
3. Hours: Kababs serves a $7.99 weekday lunch buffet from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Mondays through Fridays and for $9.99 on Saturdays and Sundays. It reopens for dinner from 5 to 10 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays.
A GOOD DEAL
During July, Abuelo's at 1413 Waterfront Parkway is putting on a "crayons for queso" school supply drive. Diners who bring in new school supply items will receive a free appetizer or dessert, including queso. The supplies will be donated to local schools, and the supplies that qualify diners for the deal are 16-count boxes of crayons, 12-packs of pens or pencils, two packages of loose-leaf notebook paper, two spiral notebooks or one box of tissues.
Yia Yia's wine dinner
Yia Yia's Eurobistro is putting on a wine dinner at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday that will feature a four-course meal plus dessert, each course paired with a wine from Yvon Mau imports. Among the dishes chef David Varner will prepare: braised oxtail, crispy pheasant spring rolls, and more. The dinner is $65 a person. Call 316-634-1000 for reservations.
River City remodel done
After six weeks of displacement, everything is as it should be again at River City Brewery , 150 N. Mosley, and the dining room has a new look. Managers moved diners upstairs to nightclub Loft 150 for the past month and a half while they replaced brewery equipment and reconfigured the dining room, creating an island-style bar, removing some booths and adding a bunch of tall bar tables and several big-screen television sets closer to the tap action. The remodel doesn't look dramatically different, but it adds 19 chairs — and two beer taps — to the operation. River City now will always have eight site-brewed beers on tap.
