NEW THIS WEEK

• Speed Racer -- The Wachowski brothers (and yes, they are still brothers _ the rumor that Larry had a sex change is untrue) take their visual flair that made "The Matrix" groundbreaking and update the 1960s anime TV series "Speed Racer" for the big screen. Emile Hirsch stars as young race car driver Speed who faces off against his archenemy Racer X (Matthew Fox) on the track.

• Redbelt -- Writer/director David Mamet ("Glengarry Glen Ross") returns with a typically gritty drama about a martial arts instructor (Chiwetel Ejiofor) who is struggling to make ends meet _ until an accident changes his fate and he attracts sleazy fight promoters and an aging actor (an atypically dramatic Tim Allen). Early word is mixed, but one thing seems to be certain: The film has a Mamet touch, with fast, razor-sharp dialogue and wonderfully seedy characters -- and some say it's a welcome return to form.

• What Happens in Vegas-- Cameron Diaz and Ashton Kutcher really branch out in this romantic comedy about two strangers who wake up after a night of drunken debauchery in Las Vegas, only to discover that they're now married, and one of them won a huge jackpot with the other's quarter. They set out to undermine each other and claim the winning coin, only to fall in love along the way. Probably a harmless enough, though utterly predictable, date movie.
