Opening this week
▪ “Suicide Squad” – DC Comics has a lot riding on this, so no pressure Will Smith, Margot Robbie and Jai Courtney, who are among the supervillains offered clemency if they carry out a dangerous, apparently ultra-violent secret mission. Maybe they’re not bad and just drawn that way.
▪ “Nine Lives” – Kevin Spacey stars as a workaholic billionaire who magically gets trapped inside the body of the family cat. No, seriously, that’s what it’s about! The level of talent involved in this family comedy is surprising, and Spacey is just the beginning. It’s credited to five screenwriters (not a good sign), directed by Barry Sonnenfeld (“Men in Black”) and also stars Jennifer Garner and Christopher Walken. Am I dreaming this?
Never miss a local story.
▪ “Citizen Soldier” – This uses real footage to tell the story of a group of soldiers in the Oklahoma Army National Guard’s 45th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, known since World War II as the Thunderbirds, during the height of the 2007 escalation of military operations in Iraq and Afghanistan.
