Share the Season is an annual campaign that offers one-time aid to people affected by unforeseen hardships. The people are not identified to protect their privacy.
Christmas for this family of two isn’t like any others. Instead of wrapped gifts, the woman’s 16-year-old daughter was “tickled pink” to receive help from Share the Season to pay for this month’s utilities bill.
“We got a tree up,” the 49-year-old mother said, “but there’s not much under it.”
Problems for this family started when the mother had unexpected medical expenses to get a tooth removed. Soon after that, much of the family’s money went towards repairing a wrecked car.
Never miss a local story.
The family’s only source of income comes from Social Security, and paying bills is a struggle from month to month. And electricity is a must because the disabled woman relies on an oxygen machine.
But the woman says she and her daughter have the spirit of Christmas.
“I know now what Christmas is all about. It’s all about Jesus.”
So far, Share the Season has raised $183,850.
