Share the Season is an annual campaign that offers one-time aid to people affected by unforeseen hardships. The people are not identified to protect their privacy.
This 27-year-old single mother of four fell behind on bills when she was laid off from her job for six months shortly after she bought her first home.
“I almost lost everything within that time,” she wrote in her application.
She was asked to come back to the same company but was laid off again seven months later.
This time she decided to take another job as a bookkeeper that paid less but offered more job security.
“It has been a gradual climb out of debt since,” she said. “I have minimized my bills to the absolute necessities.”
She has received help from Share the Season for some of her bills. She also has been able to keep her home.
“It really did help,” she said. “There’s not a lot of help out there for working parents.”
So far, Share the Season has raised $73,702.
