Share the Season is an annual campaign that offers one-time aid to people affected by unforeseen hardships. The people are not identified to protect their privacy.
This family of four is struggling to live off the 43-year-old father’s monthly disability check of $898.
“We try to scavenge for food,” said the 40-year-old mother of two sons, 20 and 14.
She lost her job last April and hasn’t been able to find work. Her husband has a pacemaker after suffering two heart attacks.
The $700 monthly rent gobbles much of the disability check. The family is already two months behind on payments for a 2001 Pontiac. Her husband’s truck won’t run.
“I hope they don’t take this car,” she said.
“Right now my family is suffering because of no money or food,” she wrote.
The family also needs some clothes because many of the ones they wear now have holes, she wrote.
So far, Share the Season has raised $48,900.
