The 68-year-old woman mortgaged her house to help family.
The mortgage loan was based on her nephew’s income. It was to help him, his wife, who has cancer, and their six children.
But when he died suddenly, his wife was unable to make payments.
He had no insurance, and the family struggled to pay for his funeral.
Now, the 68-year-old woman living on Social Security is worried about losing her home. “The bank informed me I do not qualify to refinance,” she wrote on her application. “I am not sorry I helped this family. I am only worried about losing my home of 35 years.”
