Art events: Burlesque, oil paintings, ‘Night at the Museum’

Burlesque show at the Forum

American Rose Theater is putting on a burlesque show called “Cinema Shakedown Burlesque” on Saturday at the Forum Theatre, 147 S. Hillside. The show will feature performances from iconic movies re-imagined by the burlesque performers and also will have appearances by burlesque performers from Kansas City. Doors open at 7:15 p.m., and the show begins at 8. Attendees must be 18 to enter and 21 to drink. A cash bar will be available. Tickets are $18 in advance by calling 316-618-0444 or by visiting www.forumwichita.com. They’ll be $20 at the door.

Small oil paintings at the Center

The Wichita Center for the Arts will open its National Small Oil Painting Exhibition on Friday, and it will remain on display through Oct. 19. An opening reception is planned for 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at the center, 9112 E. Central. The exhibition, which was nationally juried, features original oil paintings no larger than 18 x 24 inches. The gallery is open from 1 to 5 p.m. Tuesdays through Sundays, and admission is free.

‘Night at the Museum’

“Night at the Museum” is an event scheduled for 8 to 10 p.m. Friday at the Wichita Art Museum, 1400 W. Museum Blvd. It will have activities both inside and outside the museum, including a screening of the 1902 silent film “A Trip to the Moon,” neon bocce ball on the lawn, an outdoor photo booth and a cash bar. Admission is free for WAM members or $10 for nonmembers. Tickets are available by visiting wichitaartmuseum.org or by calling 316-268-4912.
