Artisan market at the Workroom
A second-Saturday artisan market will happen from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Workroom, a custom drapery shop at 150 N. Cleveland. The event will feature items made by local artists and artisans as well as food items for purchase. Among the items for sale will be handmade candles, chain mail jewelry and more. ‘Aladdin’ for kids at the Crown
“Aladdin,” the prince from the 1992 Disney movie, will come to life on Friday when the stage show opens as part of the Crown Uptown’s Children’s Theatre series. The show will run on Fridays and Saturdays through Aug. 9. Doors open at 11 a.m., and a buffet lunch featuring kid-friendly fare including hotdogs, chicken nuggets, mac and cheese and applesauce, will be served at 11:15 a.m. The show starts at 12:30 p.m. Tickets are $15 a person and include the meal. ‘A House in the Sky’ author in town
Author Amanda Lindhout will be at Grace Presbyterian Church, 5002 E. Douglas, on Wednesday to read from and sign copes of her bestselling 2013 memoir “A House in the Sky.” The book tells the story of the 15 months Lindhout spent in captivity in Somalia. It’s being made into a movie produced by Rooney Mara, the star of “The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo.” Admission is free.
