Powwow at Indian Center

The Friends of the Keeper Powwow is celebrating the 40th birthday of the Keeper of the Plains from 1 to 10 p.m. Saturday and from 1 to 6 p.m. Sunday. There will be gourd dancing, special presentations, a performance by a children’s group, social dancing, a American Indian clown, and crafts and artisans. Hoop dancer Dennis Rogers will be a special guest. The free event is at the Mid-America All-Indian Center, 650 N. Seneca. Go to the Friends of the Keeper’s Facebook page for more information.

Blooms, Brews and Bloody Marys

Botanica, 701 Amidon, is hosting the third annual “Blooms, Brews and Bloody Marys” from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Thursday. Local bars and restaurants will compete in a best Bloody Mary contest. Enjoy specialty food, beer from the Wichita Brewing Co. and River City brewery, and music by Spirit of the Stairs. The cost is $40 ($30 for Botanica and Young Professionals of Wichita members.) Kite festival in Derby

See all kinds of kites take flight at the second annual Kite Festival in Derby. Activities include kite making, face painting, a 1-mile walk (1:30 p.m.) and a candy drop (2 p.m.). The free event also includes live music and food vendors. The festival takes place from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, at High Park, 2801 E. James in Derby.
