Bars full of holiday spirits on Christmas

Christmas offers a lot of family togetherness.

Then again, Christmas offers a lot of family ... togetherness.

Those who need an escape – and a drink – during the holidays are not without options. Although most businesses in town will be shut up tight on Christmas, several accommodating bars will be open and accepting escapees, er, customers.

Many of Wichita’s most popular bars will be closed. The Anchor closes early on Christmas Eve and will be closed on Christmas Day. Same goes for Heroes, Mort’s, Old Chicago, the Monarch and both Emerson Biggins. The Pumphouse and Fat Tony’s will be closed both Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.

The following bars, however, are there if you need them. If you don’t see your neighborhood watering hole listed, call for hours.

Public at the Brickyard, 129 N. Rock Island: The restaurant and bar will open for lunch from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Christmas Eve, then from 8 p.m. to roughly midnight for drinks only. On Christmas Day, drinks will be served from 8 p.m. until business slows down.

Joe’s Old Town Bar & Grill, 222 N. Washington Ave.: Open 10:30 a.m. to 2 a.m. on Christmas Eve and 3 p.m. to 2 a.m. on Christmas Day.

Jon’s Ale House, 917 E. Douglas: Open 3 p.m. to 2 a.m. on Christmas Eve and 7 p.m. to 2 a.m. on Christmas Day.

John Barleycorn’s, 608 E. Douglas: Open 3 p.m. to 2 a.m. on Christmas Eve and 8 p.m. to 2 a.m. on Christmas Day.

Rain Cafe & Lounge, 518 E. Douglas: Open 11 a.m. to 2 a.m. on Christmas Eve and 8 p.m. to 2 a.m. on Christmas Day.

The Shamrock Lounge, 1724 W. Douglas: Open 2 p.m. to 2 a.m. on Christmas Eve and 6 p.m. to 2 a.m. on Christmas Day.

The Vagabond, 614 W. Douglas: Open 7 a.m. to 2 a.m. on Christmas Eve and 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Christmas Day.

The Hill Bar & Grill, 4800 E. Douglas: Open 3 p.m. to 2 a.m. on Christmas Eve and 5 p.m. to 2 a.m. on Christmas Day.

O’Brien’s Irish Pub, 5205 E. Kellogg: Open 10:30 a.m. to 2 a.m. on Christmas Eve and 3 p.m. to 2 a.m. on Christmas Day.

Walt’s East, 7732 E. Central: Open 11 a.m. to 2 a.m. on Christmas Eve and 5 p.m. to 2 a.m. on Christmas Day. The kitchen closes at 10 both nights.

Larry Bud’s, 2120 N. Woodlawn and 6200 W. 21st: Woodlawn location open but serving a limited menu 11 a.m. to 2 a.m. on Christmas Eve and 5 p.m. to 2 a.m. on Christmas Day. West 21st Street location open 5 p.m. to 2 a.m. both Christmas Eve and Christmas Day and serving the full menu.

Stadium Sports Bar, 620 W. Maple: Open noon to midnight on Christmas Eve and 4 p.m. to midnight on Christmas Day.

Dudley’s Sports Bar & Grill, 8550 W. 21st St. North: Open 10:30 a.m. to 2 a.m. on Christmas Eve and 3 p.m. to 2 a.m. on Christmas Day.

Hooter’s, 3151 N. Rock Road: Open 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Christmas Eve and 4 to 10 p.m. on Christmas Day.

Fox and Hound, 1421 Waterfront Parkway: Open 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Christmas Eve and 6 p.m. to 2 a.m. on Christmas Day.

Champ’s, 1106 S. Seneca: Open 11 a.m. to 2 a.m. on Christmas Eve and 2:30 p.m. to 2 a.m. on Christmas Day.

Whiskey Dick’s, 801 S. Seneca: Open 11 a.m. to 2 a.m. on Christmas Eve and 3 p.m. to 2 a.m. on Christmas Day.

The Alibi Room, 919 E. Douglas: Open 8 p.m. to 2 a.m. on Christmas Eve and 8 p.m. to 2 a.m. on Christmas Day.
