The 100-voice-strong Wichita Choral Society and members of the Wichita Symphony will present their 68th annual performance of Handel’s Messiah at 2 p.m. Sunday at First United Methodist Church, 330 N. Broadway. Admission is $10. The choral society is under the direction of Shawn Chastain, the executive coordinator of fine arts for the Wichita school district.
Spirit of the Season Holiday Concert
The Wichita Symphony’s annual holiday family concert, featuring Christmas carols and holidays hits, begins at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Century II Convention Hall, 225 W. Douglas. The concert features vocalist Emily Sternfeld-Dunn and will be led by guest conductor Mark Laycock, director of orchestras at Wichita State University.
Admission is free, but tickets are required. Free tickets are available at http://wichitasymphony.org/tickets-events/. Those without tickets will be admitted on a space-available basis about 10 minutes before the performance begins. The Spirit of the Season Holiday Concert is sponsored by Spirit AeroSystems, The Wichita Eagle and HG Design. Guests are asked to bring non-perishable food items for the Kansas Food Bank.
Christmas Candlelight at Friends
The Singing Quakers annual Christmas Candlelight Concert is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday at the Riney Fine Arts Center’s Sebits Auditorium at Friends University. The singers in the student choir, directed by Mark Bartel, will ask the audience to participate in a few traditional carols. Tickets are $16 for adults, $13 for seniors and students, and can be purchased at friends.edu/finearts or by calling 316-295-5677.
