Halloween musicals at local high schools
A couple of local high school are getting into the Halloween spirit with their musical stage productions. West High School at 820 S. Osage will open “ Little Shop of Horrors” on Thursday, featuring alum and Broadway star Karla Burns as the voice of Audrey II. The show will be performed at 7 p.m. Thursday and at 1 p.m. Oct. 26. Admission is $3 for students and $5 for adults. And Northeast Magnet High School at 5550 S. Lycee will put on “Young Frankenstein” at 7 p.m. Thursday and Oct. 25 and at 2:30 p.m. Oct. 26. Admission is $6 for students and $8 for adults.
Free Film Friday at Shift Space
Wichita State University’s Shift Space gallery is starting a new series called Free Film Friday, and it begins on Friday with a screening of the 1988 Spanish film “Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown.” The film will be shown at Shift Space, the off-campus student art gallery at 416 S. Commerce, starting at 7 p.m. Admission is free, and refreshments will be provided. People are encouraged to bring their own chairs. For more information, visit Shiftspacegallery.com.

Homecoming concert at Friends
It’s homecoming weekend at Friends University, and the celebration will include the Friends University Chamber Orchestra’s fall concert. The orchestra will be joined by the flute choir, which will play selections by Ralph Manuel and Tom Benjamin. The orchestra will perform Albert Roussel’s “Suite for Strings” and Telemann’s “Don Quixote Suite.” The concert is at 7:30 p.m. Friday in the Riney Fine Arts Center’s Sebits Auditorium.
