The weather outside might be frightful, but hop in the car and check out Wichita and area lights to put you and your family in the holiday mood.
Lights on the Lake
Heartspring hosts its biggest fundraiser of the year, Lights on the Lake, at 8700 E. 29th St. North.
This year, they have increased donation opportunities by adding a hospitality center. Here, people can take photos with Santa for $5 and enjoy free hot cocoa and cookies.
“The money donated goes to pediatric services for kids from our community,” said Dusty Buell, director of marketing at Heartspring. “You’re not just driving though the lights, you’re actually helping children, and the cookies and cocoa don’t hurt either.”
Patrons can listen to holiday tunes and testimonials from the children they’re helping on 89.7 FM as they drive though the candy cane garden and the 40-foot lighted tree.
“You get to see the exhibit twice, once in person and once in the lake reflection,” Buell said.
Buell hopes traffic will increase as the holiday grows closer. Last year, Heartspring was able to donate around $250,000 to local children through Lights on the Lake donations.
People can view the lights from 6 to 10 p.m. daily through Christmas. For information, call 316-634-8761.
