1. Wet-n-Wild Days at the Sedgwick County Zoo: Starting today, the zoo is again offering its Friday afternoon cool-downs, scheduled for 1 to 4 p.m. every Friday through Aug. 5. Children can enjoy rain tents, face painting, animal education projects and a complete drenching by the Sedgwick County Fire Department. Admission is $12 for adults, $7.50 for children ages 3-11, $7.50 for seniors age 62 and over, and free for children 2 and under. Zoo members get in free with membership card and photo ID.
2. Zumba under the stars: The South YMCA is putting on an outdoor fundraising event from 9 to 11 p.m. tonight. Participants will meet at the new turf field at the South YMCA, 3405 S. Meridian, for a party that features Zumba, an exercise craze that mimics Latin dancing. Admission is $20 a person and includes a T-shirt. The event is open to YMCA members and non-members. Register at any YMCA branch. Proceeds will benefit the Y's Strong Kids programs.
3. Fourth Annual Chalk Art Festival: Youthville is putting on this colorful event from 10 am. to 2 p.m. Saturday in Newton. More than 25 artists will line the streets of downtown Newton, each creating art on a canvas with chalk. Those who come to watch can create their own sidewalk chalk art and enjoy live music, food and other activities. The event is free.
