Gymnasts and contortionists are the presumed stars of "Cirque Dreams Illumination," but those who attend the show are bound to be equally impressed by the music, the lights and the glittering costumes. Here's what you need to know about the show:
1) It is the brainchild of Neil Goldberg, who's created 12 Cirque productions that feature amazing acrobatics. A cast of 27 artists balance on wires, leap from structures and practically fly in the air.
2) "Illumination" loosely tells a story that includes comedy and pathos as it looks at what is supposed to be everyday life. The message is to find life, love and fulfillment in a sometimes-frantic world.
3) Music is a prominent part of the show. The score combines jazz, salsa, ballroom, pop and street music to create a heart-pounding theatrical experience.
4) Costumes also push the envelope in extravagance. Each production features a multimillion dollar wardrobe of imported fabrics, custom prints, Swarovski crystals, jewels, masks, body molding and millinery work.
Cirque Dreams Illumination will be presented at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday at Century II Concert Hall. Tickets range from $44 to $59 at www.wichitatix.com or by calling 316-219-4849.
